The Response to Christ's Teachings Is God's Wisdom Created Based on Proverbs 8:22

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning of the interpretation of Proverbs 8:22 which is often used as the basis for the teaching that Jesus Christ is the wisdom created by God. This teaching has emerged since the early days of the church and remains a debate to this day, so it is important to examine it in order to understand the person of Jesus Christ properly. The research was conducted qualitatively with a phenomenological method and a literature study approach. The interpretation of the Bible text used the historical-grammatical method and a biblical theological approach through exegetical studies and Bible analysis. The first stage includes an in-depth interpretation of the text and a comparison with contemporary translations and interpretations related to the concept of created wisdom. The second stage compiles a critical historical reconstruction by considering the understanding of wisdom in first-century Judaism. The results of the study conclude that Proverbs 8:22 does not directly refer to Jesus, so it cannot be used as a basis for Christ being a created being before the world was created.
